One of the major issues for couples starting the divorce process if they have children, is the discussion of child support. A Fair Way Mediation is well trained at helping couples not only get an affordable divorce, but navigate the issues of child support and child custody. We understand that divorce is already stressful enough on the parents, and when children are involved in a divorce it can greatly increase these stresses. But there is a light at the end of the tunnel and our goal is to help you both come to a mutual agreement on child support issues without leaving it to a judge to decide.

We offer a free 30 minute consultation, please fill out our "Ask the Mediator" form or give us a call!

Using a traditional divorce lawyer, you and your spouse will have to communicate between lawyers until you come to an agreement, often times at an hourly rate and upon completion can get a bill that was a lot higher than you expected. You have to remember, lawyers don't always have your best interests in mind and things can get dragged out. These often end up in front of the judge and ultimately the fate of the child support issue will lay in the judge's hands. With mediation, the power of agreement is put back in to your own hands, you 2 can negotiate the chid support issue and come to a mutual agreement.

Child Support and Income

As I'm sure you're aware, income will play a role in the child support calculations. During the child support discussions this will certainly be accounted for, with mediation your personal incomes won't be exposed to the court system. Should your case end up in court, you must provide income, tax information, and miscellaneous income to the courts for their ulimate decision. The courts will also take in to account the amount of time one spouse spends with the other.

In a case where there is a personal source of income that there is a dispute over, this will be taken into the child support calculations. In the hands of a lawyer this could end up costing much more than going through a mediator by working it out together.

We Don't Take Sides

Unlike a divorce lawyer who has ONLY the best interests of their client to win, with mediation, we do not take sides. We allow each individual to speak directly to each other and will play a 3rd party negotiator to the proceedings. We can not give legal advice to either party individually as this breaks the trust of the mediation process.

When it comes to child support, again we do not take sides but work out an agreemnet between the 2 individuals in what can be a very contentious debate as children are obviously a very important part of your lives.
