Half of Divorced Couples in the U.S. say the #1 Conflict in their Marriage is?

The Centers for Disease Control say 690,000 couples reported a divorce in 2021, which is about half the numbers of couples who reported getting married. Why is this happening? Many filed for a no-fault divorce which allows couples to dissolve the marriage without showing that either couple is at fault. Surprisingly, the top reason for divorce is not money problems according to a Forbes Survey. In fact, financial issues are one of the lowest on the list of these 7 reasons that do put a strain on marriages:

    1. 1.  Career Choices
      2. Parenting Differences
      3. Division of household labor
      4. Relationships with family
      5. Relationships with friends
      6. Finances
      7. Health choices

    2. The top reason from 46% of people surveyed, said career choices were the biggest conflict in their marriage. Second on the list, parenting differences at 43%. As you might expect, these included conflicts over division of household labor and relationships with family, which were #3 and #4.

Why Reasons to Marry and Divorce are part of the Big Picture

    1. When couples marry not for love, but for reasons such as financial security, convenience, medical insurance, companionship or societal or family pressures, these are reasons that are more likely to end in divorce. A lack of family support is also a common reason. Women were more likely than men to indicate they married for financial reasons. Women are paid 22% less than men on average in 2022.

    2. If you are a couple that want to divorce but would like to have some guidance in working out the issues, mediation is one of the best ways to avoid both high financial and emotional costs. A skilled mediator can help you work out the issues amicably with your spouse. In a safe and calm atmosphere your mediator will guide and help you make the best decisions on your marriage.

    3. Mediation also saves money, time, and disagreements. It involves a neutral mediator who is skilled in helping couples work out disagreements and turn them in to agreements that both spouses can except. A kind and thoughtful conversation helps lead the couple to a divorce that both can accept. Not only is mediation less time-consuming, but the cost is also less.
