Mediation for military families is private and confidential. Nobody in the chain of command will know anything about the couple which they do not disclose themselves. There is no need to step foot into a courtroom or appear before a judge. All decisions concerning custody; support; division of retirement benefits; bills and other issues which apply are made by the parties based upon the options provided by the mediator.
The mediator is a neutral between the parties. Each party is treated with dignity and respect. Each will be heard and understood so that a mutually acceptable compromise can be reached. All too often couples going through a stressful divorce no longer “listen or hear” what the other spouse is saying. A major role of the mediator is to “translate” what each party is saying to the other.
Because finances are of utmost importance to military families, mediation is a wise choice as the fees are significantly lower than adversarial divorces in which each spouse hires a lawyer of their own with no limit as to the attorneys’ fees and court costs. The time to reach a fair, reasonable and equitable resolution is much quicker than when the parties engage a lawyer and work out the settlement between themselves.
